Hello Everyone
So today was my first day engaging my student in my inquiry plan. I am working on communicating effectively to my students as well as using assessments in my instruction. I am doing this by working on open response questions. i have to say today was pretty painless. I was able to understand their feelings about open responses through a student self-assessment. Their pre-assessment was as expected. I had an idea of where they would have difficulty. As we went over the assessment together several of them stated that they did not know what the question was asking. This will play perfectly into my plan and instruction. I am going to move forward and review/re-teach those power verbs, as well as, the scoring guide to make sure they understand what is expected of them to get a distinguished or proficient. My fingers are crossed that this works well. I am looking forward for this plan to help prepare them for the CATS test coming up soon.

I am so glad that the first day went well. I think the student self-assessment was a great idea- and it sounds like they feel comfortable talking with you- good first start.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are off to a great start! I think that student self assessments are wonderful and it does seem to be an easy way to get students to open up and talk with you. Good luck with the re-teach of those power verbs and I look forward to reading about how things go.
ReplyDeleteGood job Bobbi. :) The biggest struggle with most students is that they don't really understand what the question is asking in the first place. Focusing on the power verbs is great. I'm sure Mr. E. loves this project!
ReplyDeleteSounds great! How did they do once re teaching the power verbs? Good idea on the student self assessment. I am interested to see how it goes.
